What is the purpose?

The purpose is to recognize students for their outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated personal responsibility, to provide service to the school and community, and to develop leadership skills in elementary school students.

 

What are the opportunities for students?

Starline's NEHS provides students the opportunity to develop leadership skills by organizing and implementing various service projects that benefit the school and community.

 

How does NEHS reach out to the school and community?

Starline's NEHS reaches out at the school level by collaborating with other school organizations, such as the PTA, to assess school needs and provide input for selected projects. Student members and faculty advisors brainstorm various community organizations and nonprofits and determine projects that are of high-interest to members, as well as, fulfill a need. Starline's NEHS makes a goal to focus on projects that benefit the younger people of the community.

Starline Student Council allows students to make a difference in their school. This group of conscientious students effectively promotes school improvement by beautifying the school environment, building school spirit, and participating in community projects. Student Council is the voice of the students.

Through the district and community wide Rachel’s Challenge initiative, Starline formed a K-1, 2-3, and 4-6 KC Club. Students organize and promote intentional acts of kindness throughout the campus and community. Students learn how to resolve conflicts, problem solve, and communicate in a positive manner to each other. They also discuss the following topics:  cultural differences, tolerance, and compassion for each other.  

Sixth grade students work collaboratively to create the annual school yearbook. They take pictures, create page layouts, and make decisions regarding the cover, page designs, and more. While creating the yearbook, they have the opportunity to learn design software.  

S.T.E.M. stands for science, technology, engineering and math. Students use problem solving skills on inquiry-based activities while exploring and engaging in the four key disciplines. 

The Board Game Club is for 5th and 6th-grade students who enjoy board games and want to connect and collaborate with their peers in a positive and (sometimes competitive) environment.  During Board Game Club time, we are here to play! 

Students in grades K-3 receive support in reading and/or math in order to bridge gaps in their progression of learning so they are more successful as they move into the intermediate grades.  

The Lake Havasu City Department of Parks and Recreation offers an After School Program at our school as well as many other events and activities for children and families offered year round.
